So me and my friend got up at 6 this morning to be able to get onto an RP server. We were waiting for Balmung to open up, but it neverÂ did. Buuuuuut Gilgamesh did, briefly. So we jumped on it. So now after 3 days of trying we're in game!

But now we have another lil problem, at least I do.

I'm playing Conjurer, and so I started in Gridania. He's playing THAU, so he started in Ul'dah. So as stated before, we wanna rp and level together.. is that going to be possible. I mean is it possible for a low level like me to get to Ul'dah? Or do I have to go through the storyline, which could take a bit. It's been a while since I played, but it is possible to walk between cities, right? I mean maybe even with an escort..

Opinions?

Once you hit 15 the msq for the two cities joins up into 1. Until that point you each have individual stories to follow.

You CAN walk to Ul'dah from Gridania, but I would advise doing your Main Story Quest before trying to go too far out of your starting zone. Those will be the meteor-looking quest bubbles with the fiery edges, as opposed to the normal (!) ones.

The world will eventually open up to you and allow you to Airship your way around, which is not only fast and safe but also fairly inexpensive compared to teleporting. I know it's a bummer because you two want to play together, but converging in Ul'dah or Grindania will mean one of you will be playing catch-up later on when it comes to story progression.

Story is important in FFXIV: It not only provides the, well, story but dungeons and game features are locked behind quests that the MSQ takes you on.

The MSQ unlocks the airship travel from city to city. I do think you could walk from Gridania to Ul'dah, though? I know South Shroud leads into Eastern Thanalan, and North Shroud leads to Coerthas to Mor Dhona to Northern Thanalan (i.e. "the scenic route). You'd definitely need escorts, though. Or someone with a two-person mount, at least.

But yeah, as Warren said, the MSQ unlocks more than just travel options. At least once you start town-hopping for the MSQ, both of you should be roughly on the same page.
