Hello!
I have been at this game for some time on Gilgamesh and as i got higher levels i have been looking for something to do between raiding and school. I have Seen some RP around on gilgamesh and thought i might want to join in. After looking through new RP guides and questions i feel ready to dive in, though i want to start slow, like as a supporting character for others, while i build my character and her back story. However i do not really know where to start. I looked for Gilgamesh events but there seems to be a lot less there than on balmung. Should i make a new character on balmung since it seems more active? or use my current one on Gilg? and what is a good way to meet other RPers and perhaps get in on some of their stories?

Hello Sillmeria and welcome to the RPC,

I think Gilgamesh has plenty activity, but more specifically i'd suggest checking out the Linkshell hall postings particularly http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 which is the Gilgames OOC hub where you can get to know other RPers and where they might be. As far as events, they wax and wane as time goes on, I know at least on Balmung, maybe a half of what might be publicly happening ends up on the Calendar since a lot of people coordinate via word of mouth in game.

Hope that helps, sure enough if you make some connections on Gilgamesh (and feel free to post on the linkshell hall entries if you'd like to make contact with them.) you'll find a lot to keep you busy!

Hello! We're glad to have you here!

The linkshells are an excellent place to start. You can ask around in the OOC channels for RP and get connected with people. If you find one you like you can ask or apply to join and you'll likely be welcomed with open arms! And of course if you need any help with backstory many here would be happy to offer help or suggestions or even act as a sounding board for ideas. Myself included.

This may not apply to you since you seem to want something more organized, but an alternative is to try some random RP in some of the cities. I know for a fact Limsa is usually bustling around peak hours. Check out The Bismarck or the Drowning Wench and you can usually find some people sitting about RP-ing.

I just started up a LFRP Linkshell. Â It has just me in it at the moment, but I figured it's a good place to start since I haven't really heard of any others that aren't already full. Â Hopefully it builds enough interest. Â Contact Medah Miakoda to join.

As a note Miakoda, he's on Gilgamesh not Balmung, so you might not hear back from him.

A couple things you can try:

1. Roll a character on each server. Coming from Balmung, I see a fair amount of open world RP and events, but neither server is an 'official' RP server, and it may come down to which server you have the best luck on. Exploring both may open up more opportunities.

2. Join an OOC LFRP LS. Both servers have them, and can be effective ways of meeting others in your communities.

3. Consider starting small. Events are nice, and can whet your appetite, but can be large-scale and hard to find an in, or leave new rpers feeling frustrated as they don't know who to direct their questions to. Conversely, joining an RP LS or FC gives you a smaller group to try and learn the ropes from, with more attentive help in getting your questions answered. You may also try to find an in game mentor. There are lots of friendly folks spread out across both servers.

4. Utilize these forums. The RP discussion section is a great place to have your questions answered. The more specific your inquiry the better, but broad questions can lead to great discussions too! Just remember no on's opinion is better than anyone else's; there are as many different tastes and valid views as there are silver-haired miqo'te in this game (which is to say, a lot), so take everything with a grain of salt , and apply what works best for you!

5. Dabbling in forum rp can certainly help build your knowledge!

6. (And most importantly) Have fun! Don't be afraid to launch yourself into it, or to make mistakes! All of us have at one point, and those who get mad at someone else over RP needs to consider cutting back on the caffeine a little bit. Good luck!

Thanks all for your replys! I decided to make a new char on balmung. My one on gilg is in a raiding FC and i feel not getting to be in a RP FC could take away from the experience. So i may still look around for RP on there but i will try my luck on Balmung. I hope to see you all there!

Welcome to Balmung then,

There's Wineport Wensdays occuring today, as well as a few events on the 9th if you care to poke your head in (The Coffer&Coffin being open, and the Winter speed-meet requiring you to notify the host.) Both are up on the calendar if you'd like to take a peek.
