The modern high school. The most cliched, painfully rote setting for a story ever.
Whether it is in anime or a 90s teenage sitcom in the West, it's a setting that most people connect with. Yet it's also a very stratified, cliquish and hierarchical stage of life.

I was getting nostalgic lately about the fighting game, Rival Schools, which is a triumphant example of the stereotypes we see in schools taken to their extreme. Then I wondered... what role would a character from this forum take in a school?

Jana's just a gloomy nerd who sits in the back of the class and doesn't talk to anyone, but still gets good grades. Probably sit by herself at lunch and such.

She'd probably get A+ in stuff that's all memorization, like history. She probably wouldn't outright fail anything but something like math, which is all calculation, would probably be a weak point. And the people who'd gather to her probably want something... Who knows?

Jana's response to a career counselor would be to find her a job where she doesn't have to talk to people. Maybe she can get away with something like a company's IT lady or something where she'll be surrounded by screens all day.

Sounsyy would probably be Captain of the Varsity Volleyball team. So preppy jock-girl?

PE and History/Social Studies. In PE she'd probably be the girl who tries (and succeeds) in beating the boys in number of chin-ups.

English. Definitely couldn't hack the grammar. Or the reading...

She'd probably just clique with the rest of her Volleyball team. She'd like those wacky environmentalist group people as well. The ones who picket things. ...Maybe Sounsyy wouldn't be that popular. Oh god no, Mirke is a Yiddish name, everyone would make fun of her. ; ; Oh godddddd! Poor Sounsyy. She'd probably also get made fun of for sleeping with a member of her volleyball team. High school is rough.

She has no idea what she wants to do with her life. And the overwhelming overwhelmingness overwhelms her and she cries in the bathroom for a while. Probably smokes a cigarette in there too. Y'know, fer good measure.

Her friendliness and eagerness to help brings people from each of the 'cliques' her way.. whether or not they aren't just using her for tutoring or actually befriending her is something she's not bothered by.

She's a friend to most. What she lacks in a tight-knit social circle she makes up for in vauable, doting partnerships.Â

History. She wouldn't be able to participate in Physical Education anymore either so that's either an instant fail or she'd have a free library period.

Pretty much anyone honestly, she's the kind of character - that I've seen thus far - that can probably hang around with most groups, even though there'd be very few she'd be close to.

Formerly Police work or going into the Special Forces. Currently nursing or becoming a doctor.

She is polite to everyone, and receives cautious respect from all in return, but that's about it. Has no actual friends.
