I had been entertaining the idea of involving botanist mechanics in RP after "hiring" a group of adventurers to protect me through Coerthas (Yes I actually RPed an escort mission, was pretty fun actually) Looking through the gathering log I noticed that when it comes to shards and especially crystas they tend to be found only in certain regions, with the bountiful Black Shroud producing 3 elements, La Noscea 2 elements, and lastly the more "extreme" areas od Thanalan and Coerthas only producing one type.Suddnelty had this whole IC idea of the reason of the lack of resouces could be of an imbalance of the elements coming from the earth and that they could be "planted" in the soil to try and inflence the growing rates of crops since I understand that crystals gathered from mining do not follow this same rule.

Was wondering if acording to the lore there is an explanation as to how the crystals, and especially the ones obtained from trees are created. Someone mentioned that they are created naturaly after interacting through the weather (for example: Coerthas has abundance of ice because of the snowstorms and stuff) but also have not managed to find any info regarding that.

Are there any botanists / miners / farmers who are knowledgeable about the stuff?

Oh boy, I did those quests long ago and I don't even remember the dialogues clearly, but the way I understood it (and the way my memory "stored" that information"), the lifestream can sometimes, when really concentrated, form clusters of crystallized aether, and when it's strong enough, it will exudate from the earth, rock and wood and become solid in the form of minerals. So I suppose it works a bit like amber (fossilized tree resin, not sap) in real life? I think that would explain why you can gather crystal clusters in Mor Dhona, which is an area clearly abundant of solid aether since the Calamity.

To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.

"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." -- N.C.

Well, the Shards/Crystals/Clusters, if I remember correctly are formed when there is an excess of Aether left over from someone's Aether not transferring back to Hydaelyn when they die. Just as it can form into ghosts and the like, it can also coalesce into crystals.

Also, Thanalan produces 3 elements of crystals when mining.

Is there a source to confirm it? It would work out so well with my current character arc if that were the case.

Quote:Aether is released from the body upon death and then disappears from the physical realm. However, only so much of it can cross over at a time, and any excess remains to form a glowing mist, crystals, or even ghostly apparitions. As aether is akin to soul energy, more violent and dramatic deaths tend to yield more excess aether.
