Was having a chat with a buddy lastnight and got on the topic of careers. Pretty interesting since we had never really talk about it and honestly I never pictured him doing what he does.

So now I turn the question to you who are willing to chat about that which pays for our addiction. What sort of work do you do irl?

I am a nurse in an end of life facility. My job is to bring comfort and courage to those about to take the great adventure. I find it hard and fulfilling as people at the end unburden their souls to us (the staff) and I feel blessed to help.

From CompuServe and BBs, excesive amounts of table top, played and created LARP, and more recently MMORPGs.

To fund my life I lead Enterprise Architecture teams, which means I get to draw pictures on whiteboards.

As I will be writing much here I should mention I am Dyslexic.

I've done a lot of jobs. From Wal-Mart to small business graphic design and photography (amateurish but I got paid for time example being getting paid 300 for following someone around snapping pictures all day lol)

But currently I work at a animal shelter. The same place I got my little doggie from.

I'm the person every one hates. I work for a private company that runs a lot of parking lots in my city. If you dont pay to park I will cite and tow your vehicle.

Currently in school to become a funeral director myself. Not exactly the cheeriest job but it's very fulfilling. I volunteer at an animal shelter on free time.

I am an IT person for a pizza corporation based in mostly Illinois with some franchises locations in Indiana. I'm mostly on the software side of the IT department, mostly specializing in problems the store managers have with their point of sale systems with a large portion of my time being taken by having to manually log into each of our 35 location's main database servers using Logmein client and build each and every one of their coupons and specials by hand each and every month... because we currently have no way to enter them here at the corporate office and push them out to all the stores!

Oh well, job security

I'm a Medical Laboratory ScientistÂ (the Bachelor's degree kind). You know, that medical profession no one has heard of but is involved in about 70-80% of all medical decisions? Big Grin

I work in an independent reference laboratory in the Microbiology department. Our lab services a lot of small hospitals in the area as well as retirement homes and clinics. Basically, if your doctor takes a swab or sample to look for infection, I get that swab and we culture it, and identify what's causing the infection. We also do antibiotic susceptibility testing, which helps the doctor know how to treat the infection.

It's a great career.

I'm a supervisor for the Accommodations department of a casino. Been doing this sort of work for around 8 or 9 years now, but only with my current enterprise for about 3.

Hardly a snazzy job, but we are the beating heart of the resort. If we falter, the whole damn thing crashes out....but if we run well then nobody notices. :3
