Did a tracert a few times from my IP to the US datacenter, and it looks like the packets are getting hung up in the Level3 center in Montreal (surprise!) with anywhere from 300- to 1500- ms. latency.

It's been almost two years, and yet Square still cannot fix this issue.

Could be. I lack the skill set to verify it, so I think I'll try to roll on the datacenter I canÂ connect to and see if I can't play there.

EDIT - I tried again and made it as far as the queue again. 293 people in queue.

After the last game I worked on had stupid launch issues like this, I kinda feel a bit smug that it's happening to me on a consumer level.

The majority of people are saying it's a server thing, and thus squarely Square Enix's fault.

...but, you know, hope and all that.

Yeah, it's a data server thing. In this case it's S-E's fault for sure, but it's not something I'd put on QA's end, but rather on the planning levels dev side.

No amount of QA can prepare for anything related to online.

So I got lucky. When the entire server 90k'ed I quickly loaded my benchmarch char into char creation and lo and behold Balmung was opened! I got my alt Big Grin

Â Now the only thing frustrating is error 2002 and the "You are 91 in queue" and refreshes that same number for 30 mins or more till it finally loads in.

I did finally get in. Â WAs a little worried I'd crash out (the game was behaving oddly around large numbers of other players). Â made it to 51 and got Astrologian unlocked. Â This should be interesting.

I was in the middle of a cutscene with someone talking about opening up something for me. Didn't expect it to be opening the Pandora's Box of errors again. Sad
