Hi all! As my insomnia currently refuses to let me sleep, I thought I'd kill the time by finally making an introductory post.
My previous RP experience has actually been only with Star Wars games. Both Jedi Academy and SWTOR. So this is my first venture in RPing in either FF or pseudo-medieval fantasy.
I'm a total geek for cheesy kung fu movies and martial arts. You could say I'm an action junkie. I grew up watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies. Power Rangers was my favourite show and my other big videogame niche is fighting games. As you can probably guess, the FFXIV Job I'm most drawn to is the Monk. (Samurai would be cool too but not until it happens of course)
My previous FFXIV experience consisted of playing for about 2-3 months, leveling mostly by myself a Paladin until lvl 50 with 2 other friends who have since left the game. I stopped playing for a while after SWTOR released a new expansion though I expect to be playing more of FFXIV again now. I think a big problem (other than fitting my FFXIV time in with 3 other hobbies, school, work and some semblance of a social life), was that I failed to create a character that I was emotionally involved with. But I think my new concept will definitely interest me more.
I haven't yet actually RPed within FFXIV since I don't have a Balmung character and my server has no RP that I'm aware of. But I think it's time that I finally drop the coin on a Balmung character. My biggest challenge will likely be the lore. RPing in SWTOR was easier because Star Wars lore has been well established. Whereas FFXIV is a fresh and new universe so there's a lot to take in. That and I honestly had a lot of trouble following the main story during my first playthrough (it's tough after playing a fully voiced MMO with modern dialogue). Whenever I end up on Balmung, I plan on re-rolling a fresh new character and hopefully I'll better understand the plot. I also plan on making a post in the Character Workshop to see if my character concept works.
Looking forward to meeting, adventuring and telling great stories with you all!
