Hello there, welcome! I recommend brushing up on some basic lore (you can find plenty here on the RPC, elsewhere on the internet, and throughout the game as you progress) and coming up with an idea of your character. Making a biography for your character is a good way to make sure you nail all the important details and have them saved somewhere in case you forget anything. After that, it's as easy as meeting people and starting to RP! The Making Connections forum here is useful if you need to meet other role-players!

One thing I do recommend is, don't do what I did and during the cutscenes of the game be like "OMG hurry up!!" and skip them lol.
I did that because really I'm not a fan of MMO storylines. But then when I started to RP I was a bit unfamiliar with the lore and had to do a lot of research so my character would be lore friendly. |

Thanks for the replies. Study the lore and make a background for my character. What can I expect? Is there a place where I can see how a question is answered or a conversation between 2 people RP? Better yet is there a place I can practice?

Hey there, and welcome to the RPC!Â
Best place to go to see it in-action 24/7 is at the Quicksand Adventurer's Guild in Ul'dah. There's a swarm of people tagged up for RP there at all hours of the day, and you can observe from a distance easily from there. It's also a good spot to cut your teeth on getting into RP too- walk-ups (aka PUG RP) are very common there. |

I hope I can phrase this next noob question.Â
How do people change the way they talk? Ex. John Doe : Hi there my name is John Doe. (I'm assuming he is saying this since it's in white text) John Doe leans against the wall ( this is now in blue text and without : after the name. How do I change it to this to say what I am doing?) |

You put /em at the start of your text.
For example. /em leans against the wall, quietly sipping from her mug. Which will read like.... Savona Drake leans against the wall, queitly sipping from her mug. |

New question. What exactly are linkshells and what is a good way to introduce my character into the RP world?

Linkshells are player made chat channels you can join in game. They range from being OOC, to IC, and can be a great way of meeting new people who are interested in the same stuff you are!
A good rule of thumb if looking for one, is to check out the linkshell hall here on the RPC. A few I'm in personally are Open RP, which is full of roleplayers and is a social/OOC LS. Ishgard RP, which is for ishgardian rpers and people who play ishgardian characters, and is another social/OOC LS. And Acronycal, which is an IC/RP LS. As for getting into the community and Rping, I'd recommend attending Rp events and interacting with characters you find interesting. Anywhere from a friendly "hello!~ I wanted to let you know your character is neat" to even just comments about their glamours that you may like can all lead to making friends and RP possibilities. You can also wander to various RP establishments, often found in the housing districts. While some aren't always open, others are, and can offer a nice, not so crowded way of getting yourself comfortable. I hope this helps  Want Rp? Send a whisper in-game, pm, or check out the links below!Â
