Okay, guys, I'm officially insane.

I am actually going to do this.

I am going to buy a new computer.

I can *sort of* afford it. >.> I have to live on like $150 for the next two weeks. But I can manage that. Ramen noodles are cheap. >.>

Is 6GB of DDR3 2000 good enough to run FFXIV, you think? Or Windows 7 in general?

Yes. More than enough. You only need .75 Gig's of RAM to run Windows 7 and only 2 gigs for FFXIV

More than enough is good. What fun is playing a mage if you have to turn spell effects off? Big Grin

Currently 6GB is the optimal amount of RAM. You experience severe diminishing returns after that!
Also, if its just $150 for two weeks on just food, that's plenty. I can go for $25-40/wk on all sorts of good stuff. Do you cook or eat out? I mean 1lb of hamburger should last you 3 meals.

I eat out waaaay too much. I'm cutting that out. No more of this "eating my paycheck" nonsense. Or at least as little of it as possible. Big Grin

Anyway, back on topic. Just waiting for payday now (7/20) to place orders. >.>

I was worried about the 6GB thing. I don't know why, I've never had more than 2GB. It's just the old maxim in my head, I suppose... "Each new Microsoft OS consumes exponentially more computing power than the previous one." Tongue

Just make sure to get Windows 7 64 bit if you get more than 2GB RAM Wink
I really should upgrade, that's the only thing about own computer that sucks (only 2GB RAM), but I don't have Windows 64 bit... Or money Cry

I actually read a recent study somewhere that proved that you could run pretty much any game just fine with just 3 GB of ram, I'll see if I can find the study.

Also, as Kashemia said, if you go over 4 GB you'll want 64 bit. 32 bit can only assign memory usage up to 4 GB, so you end up with about 3.5 GB available ram...

So, Kashemia, you should be able to get a 2GB stick of ram for less than $50 and won't even need to worry about upgrading to 64 bit. 4 GB should be able to play the game just fine, especially if that's the only aspect you're worrying about...

Really? Oh that would be great! I was under the impression that 32bit could only use 2gb. I'll go by 2 more asap <.<.
Already with just the two, the game should run fine on my computer though, scored around 3500 in the benchmark test... But a few more RAMS might mean I won't have to turn any graphics down :cheer:

I'll just add that as far as I know the ram limit on 32bit systems also includes your video ram. So if you have 2gig and then another gig on your video card that all counts. I read this a while ago so my memory (ha) might be a little off, but I'm pretty sure that's true.

Actually that's 100% true, and it happened to me... that's why eventually I got 64bit, as my system had ALL this ram and was doing nothing with it.

But that's mainly because I have two SLI cards making up a total of 1 gig just in ram on the cards alone... >.<

64bit runs so much better for me now.

Hmm, yeah, ok, that makes sense... It's a bit confusing. Maybe I should just get 1 gb RAM extra <.<
