Any lore (or even pre-established non-cannon RP lore on here) of the  specific Keeper of the Moon clans? As in, the ones that show up in game as surnames (Ie. Nelhah, Aliapoh, Epocan, Jakkya, etc)?

I planned to use one of the names for my OC Chiyi, but I want to make sure it doesn't conflict with my intended backstory for her (or maybe change that backstory to better suit it).

Apologies in advance if this is clearly addressed somewhere, I looked through all the lore threads I could find and only saw blanket lore about Keepers in general. Blush

Keeper names spread like wildfire simply because names are passed from mother to daughter, and because they have a lot of daughters. So those names you see pop up more often are simply names that have been around for a long time. Because of that, Khloe Aliapoh and Jihli Aliapoh aren't necessarily even closely related. They could be hundreds of years removed from each other. So if you want to use those names, don't feel like you even have to stick to any lore that might be there for them.

Imma tell you a story to give you some rl context to tribal names.

So, in one of my anthropology classes, awhile ago, we were talking about embarrassing experiences relative to culture. We had a few guys from Athabaskan villages along the river, and they got to joking about how those guys down river were weird (relative to potlatch behavioral expectations and such). Same tribe in the definition sense, but composed of different families and traditions -- just enough to make them seem strange.

Point is, despite sharing a tribal name, they had almost nothing to do with each other except occasional and distant interaction.

So, if you see a Keeper with the same name, they can be different, and you also have some fun opportunity to collaborate and say 'oh, you're one of those southern Aliapohs,' while giving the side-eye. And then you can do fun cultural rp where they learn to appreciate each other's differences or do a frenemy thing or something and always make fun of each other for the different practices and beliefs they have.

It's an opportunity for character interaction and character development! Embrace it. Have fun with it. Big Grin

Thank you! With that in mind, I don't think I'll have any issues with what I've planned out. I appreciate the informative answer :3

Haha, that's an absolutely great idea/way of putting it!
This has got me excited to jump into things...

Thank you kindly :3!

Most of the NPC Keeper last names we see ingame are said to be wide, long spanning keeper families that spread over time all across certain regions. Those we see ingame are mostly Eorzean. Other wide spread family names also exist, either in Meracydia or Ilsabard among others, and may show different names than the ones we know. (source: Fernehalves)

It doesn't exclude smaller families or unique entities to also exist though. Not every Keeper has a wide spread surname coming from the same roots.
