i plain on playing a Roe female as well, 15, but TALL, I"m going to have it where she remembers the moon falling and warning her family/ mother, tho I"m not sure how home life in their village ( in the spine area) would be like...

Quote:Unfortunately, due to a misinterpretation of 'Small-Big' and a slightly lazy Lalafel registration clerk, her new name came out as Size Queen. I think I've never laughed so hard at a character background before! But seriously, awesome character all around. It is very nice to see creative players showing off their Roegadyn, suddenly it's not as lonely as before! After reading your feedback and characters I decided to go with the boisterous gladiator. I dunno, I think it clicks with most of the concepts posted here, I can see some really fun interaction with you guys; |

Good stuff so far!
I'm making another Sea Wolf character, Syggfryd Eyriwilfsyn. Good to know he has some living, breathing brethren somewhere out there! He's from a village that has recently elected to return to their pirate roots after generations of being peaceful and honorable (a strong minority strongly opposes this new policy, but the elders ordered it). He's training to be a Marauder, for the time being, but that's more because he's been forced into it than anything else. He interprets his name as "peaceful victory," to give you an idea of his actual intentions. Anyway, is anyone else struggling to find good Sea Wolf/Roegadyn lore? Here's all I have:

Oh my,
why did I stumbled upon this thread just now? I'm so late to the party! (07-15-2013, 11:04 PM)Chocobald Wrote: - Cute yet Brash Sea Wolf I like it, sir. IMO, yes a simple concept yet has a lot of fun potential! Especially if that Brash 'Wolf is a little not right in the head too! Friend: "Hey look at that! Why do those chickens cross the road?" Brash : "Because if they don't... *Lift his axe* Imma gonna ax them all! YAARRR!!" Oh no not them Lalafells again... Twisting 'Wolves' names around in whatever direction they see fit! I wonder if that clerk once worked as a tour guide somewhere... *Offers high-five for comedic Roes! No, seriously, can't wait to run into Ms. Queen in game, it will be fun! Sprinkled with a little insanity of course! |

I suppose this would be a good spot to post something like this as I don't like starting new threads for some reason. Since it has been stated that Roegadyn names are influenced by an old version of the Germanic language (a lore team in Germany actually helped write up the Roegadyns) and this is one of the few races we actually have with a few translated words (their names) do you think that for the most part their language might have been Germanic as well?Â
I ask this because I have been playing my Roegadyn as someone who still speaks and understands the native language (having a large influence from her traditional grandfather). Though it's not like she would have full blown conversations with people, she just sometimes blurts out Germanic phrases; like calling people idiots in German. Do you think this is bending the lore too much and I should just drop it? And to add to your lore thing Syggfryd. The wiki states that the Hellsguard lived by a volcano which they guarded the gates to believing it was some kind of gate to the underworld. They stand guard there making sure the souls of the dead don't return back to the land of the living. Sea Wolves were island dwellers and Hellsguards were mountain people ^^. 12:08 is when he starts talking about the Roegadyn stuff with I think somewhere around 11 minutes he will pronounce Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn's name and a few others  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlUH2fKOdgQ Here is the old lore forums as well in case anyone wanted to look around. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/491-Lore And this guy on youtube does a pretty good job with summing up Roegadyn lore ^^. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1ri3JEUAZ0 |

You are absolutely correct! He did say it was a quasi form of the language. Thanks for the feedback. Maybe if I don't get too lazy I will try writing up a little phrase book or something.Â
Looking at the dictionary I can totally see which words Fernhawles came up with. Iron ---> Iyrn, Sword ---> Swerd, hahahaha xD. I see a few words that have stayed completely German: Dog ---> Hund, Steel---> Stahl. I have no idea how they got Holsk from Fast though . I need Fernhawles email to see what kind of patterns he used lol. You are probably dead on with the whole mother thing. He added an r at the end of Hund to make Hundr, though it was in parentheses, and seems to follow this rule with a few different words. |

Just dropping my Roegal in here for good measure! Actually, all the information (there's not much) is on the wiki, here.
I actually had my heart set on the name 'Xanthe' from Beta before I even found this website and looked into the naming conventions. I'm glad I did though, as it helped flesh out my character's background. I'm glad there are a few of us who are playing as Roegadyn. I wouldn't worry if backgrounds/personalities are similar because this won't matter one bit once we actually get to know our characters more. Obviously, if you stick to traditional Roe backgrounds, they are all going to be from the same place (and maybe they knew each other from there) so that could be interesting to RP with. |

As one of the vetrin Roegadyn RPers around I will toss my two cents in.
I went "Grizzled Miner" Hayden is a happy go lucky, blue collar kind of guy. The sort you always find with a drink in his hand and a song on his lips. He isn't overly chipper, he isn't overly grumpy, he is the every man so to speak. Sure he is as big as a mountain, but his heart is as gentle as a kittens. My main non gathering/Crafting class is White mage followed by Gladiator. Those are really the only two I plan to keep IC. My reasoning for this personality was simple. There seemed to be far to many grumpy hard and mean type Roeg npc's and the happy overly cheerful dumb guy didn't seem my style ether. so I went with this. |

My Roegal, Sigyn, is going to be rather quiet and easily embarrassed, but with a fierce determination to defending those she's closest to.

I am also planning on playing a gay roegirl too (but in her 30s).  She's immodest, extroverted, and a bit of a bully.  Hope our characters can meet up!
