I was going to post on the Lodestone, but apparently since I'm on vacation and my main is a lowly level 9 I am not elite enough to actually be able to post there.

I was wondering if someone could suggest this over there, please.

Can SE please create two new official RP servers, one Legacy, one non, and offer free transfers?Â The Balmung community could migrate to the new Legacy RP server, the Gilgamesh crowd to the new non-Legacy RP server.Â We would have dedicated RP servers and at the same time server and pop load on both Balmung and Gilgamesh will drop signifigantly.

I know SE will roll out new servers.Â It's inevitable.Â But this gives people (roleplayers) incentive to move to one of the new ones.Â Everyone wins.

So...could someone please post this suggestion on the Lodestone?Â I would, but I am apparently too lowly to have posting rights. Rolleyes

With free transfers offered, I'd be up for that if all my LS/FC/friends/people I plan to RP with follow... but I'm also not cool enough to post.

At least not cool enough to post more than like.. once a day or somehting?
And I already posted today. (It's rather ridiculous, if you ask me. o_O)

Not to be a downer, but that ship has long since sailed. People on Balmung have long since made it clear that even if SE designated an official RP server, the majority would not leave at this point due to OOC friendships and connections forged with non-Rpers on Balmung. The same may be said for Gilgamesh at this point as well. Long story short, Rpers aren't transferring out of those servers at this point.

The official RP server concept has been beaten to death (especially on the beta forums). And SE has largely ignored it recently. Given the toxicity of the current official forums and the primary current focal point of SE, I don't think this effort would get anywhere further than it already is.

In addition, it doesn't sound as if SE is adding new servers anyway. Their announcements sound as if they're simply bulking up current server capacities instead.

I don't think we actually need an official role-playing server. Both GW2 and FFXIV have launched without any and yet they still have a pretty huge and active community of role-players. I think the community is stronger for it, since if people want to role-play they need to put a bit more effort in than usual which helps to avoid stagnation.

Furthermore, an 'official' server tag is meaningless unless it's going to be enforced and I've long since resigned myself to the simple fact that no modern MMO is going to ban or punish players tormenting role-players or breaching naming conventions as such a move would be terrible for PR. Not that I mind, since most players are fine with role-players provided it isn't forced upon them or they aren't exposed to some of the darker stuff that goes on beneath the surface such as public ERP.

This has nothing to do with whether or not we need an official RP server.Â That topic has come and gone.Â In late beta 3 they added new servers and tried to force people to roll on them by locking all the current worlds.Â I saw the possibility of that happening again.

Right now, the official servers are a train wreck.Â If SE plans on adding new servers, the idea of official RP servers was suggested because it would actually give a community (ours) a reason to jump from Balmung/Gilgamesh to the new ones.Â It would give us RPers new servers that aren't overloaded while at the same time reducing load on Balmung and Gilgamesh.

Of course, if SE plans on bolstering the capacity of the current worlds via server upgrades, rather then adding new servers, then this point is moot.

Their announcement seems to indicate they will be raising server caps come monday. The question is whether they will be raising it enough. They have actually stopped sales of digital downloads until they get this issue fixed. Odd.

Nothing odd about stopping the sales of something until it can be used. Otherwise they'd just have more unhappy customers!

So, let me pre-empt this by saying I have no evidence at all to support my theory. It's just a hunch.

First, I don't think anyone can argue that SE doesn't care about RPers. If they didn't, we wouldn't be getting so much cool stuff. I mean, there are MMOs out there where you can't even sit in chairs, much less player housing. SE has created a very immersive and interactive world. It's screaming "RP".

So, then why not create a server devoted specifically for RPers? Simple. SE doesn't want roleplay to be this weird cult of players who are confined to one or two servers. Can you imagine the response of the trolls if there was a designated RP server and you were on a different one? "Go back into your hole! You don't belong with the real gamers!" That would hurt the RP community in so many ways:

1) It hurts our reputation because we're suddenly a secret cult that is so weird we have our own world where we can't bother anyone else.

2) It hurts our community because we no longer have a visibility to other players who might not know what RP is or if they like it.

3) It makes those of us who like PVE and PVP chose between that and our RP because the RP server is going to have less opportunities for PVE and PVP (not none - just less).

It is what we are used to from other MMOs, yes, but I don't think SE is willing to accept that. Notice that there isn't a devoted PVP server either. So, yeah. I know it's frustrating, but I actually think SE is helping us by not creating some backwater server where we can do our RP thing without bothering or helping anyone outside our own little clique.

I really don't think designating official RP servers is going to turn them into 'backwaters'. The official RP server I'm on in WoW is bustling with activity and there are plenty of PVErs/PVPers as well as RPers who PVE/PVP. I'm not even in a RP guild on my server; I'm in a raiding guild.

That said, it's also quite true that GW2 doesn't have official RP servers and the RP community hasn't struggled at all.

I'm not bothered either way. If they create official RP servers and offer free transfers, I'd consider going, but if they don't, I'm still happy where I am.

I played WoW off and on in beta and its first two years after launch, and I always picked the servers listed as "RP," expecting to find RPers, but never encountered any. I had been expecting to see people in the towns RPings, but I never made any friends in WoW nor got past level 20, so perhaps I just didn't encounter the RPers. But, that experience made me think people didn't pay attention to the sever labels except PvP and PvE.

WoW is unfortunately notorious for being rather 'cliquey' where the role-playing community is concerned. I played it for roughly five years and didn't have much luck myself! Hopefully FFXIV proves to be much better and people are more willing to actually venture out into the wider game world and network with people outside of their immediate social circles. So far the community looking to be very promising, luckily.

I will give it a try. It doesn't hurt to do so. Besides many are still locked out and should have at least a central place to go if they still cannot get to their respective servers next week. I'm sure getting on Gilgamesh will still be a pain after a while. Let me do it right now.

I'm just pointing out something, so humor me for a minute. Aren't we basically doing what your saying to ourselves. We are basically forcing ourselves on two servers specifically. Tongue

I mean no one is forced to RP with the RPC, but it's the only group anyone in general knows about and has a near monopoly on it. The other large role play community has since dispersed with 1.0.

That aside at least with how RPC has done it we are a bit more integrated with the general community. Smile

Alright gave it a try. Can someone tell me why you get auto logged out when you go to the Lodestone from the Mog Station or main site?

Then when I try to relog in I get error messages. I swear these guys need to pay Blzzard to do some website and server capacity classes with them.
