(This post was last modified: 01-16-2014, 11:45 AM by Ilwe'ran.)
Ok since some people asked me (and maybe some others may be interested ._. ?), I post here some more informations about the Family I summerized those pasts days.
The Tribe and the Family The Family has existed for eight centuries, it was once a part of what they call “the Tribe†(which isn’t a Seeker Tribe) that divided after a disagreement on their future direction. Aïwenor, a land close where the Tribe existed, had a quite hostile environment of Aether storms, so much so that the Tribe never went there to avoid any problem. Yet, they sometimes found people lost at the border, most of them agonising from the effects of that place and most could not be helped. One day, one the Tribe’s scouts came back with an Elezen agonizing from the effects of Aïwenor. The leader of the Tribe asked Lefha, a Miqo’te expert in potion making and cure to take care of him. Canwa Hlaiwa (the Elezen) spoke a different language to the Tribe and in exchange of the healing, he taught the Miqo’te about his language, using his magical book, “Parmaâ€. As time passed, Lefha learned more about Canwa. He was a well known researcher coming from Nym, who wanted to find Aïwenor’s source of Aether. The more Lefha learned about Aïwenor from Canwa, the more she got curious about the place and Canwa began to teach her how Nymian were using aether to protect some specific places. As the interest of Lefha for the Elezen and Aïwenor became obvious, the Tribe felt uneasy about it. When Lefha offered to use Canwa’s knowledge of Aïwenor to help them understand the place and perhaps use it to expand their hunting grounds, the Tribe were not happy with this and felt they should leave Aïwenor alone. While some supported her, most members of the Tribe were scared of Aïwenor and refused to consider this. Thinking that Canwa was responsible for Lefha’s interest in Aïwenor, the Tribe decided to cast out the Elezen so they could return to their peaceful life. Lefha and her friends couldn’t accept that decision and decided to go away, risking their life on the only place the Tribe wouldn’t follow nor try to interfere with their life : Aïwenor. Canwa died not so long after the departure, giving his book and his name as a legacy for the Family. Another “consequence†of those events is the Family NEVER abandons anybody. While the Family is originally a strict Keeper Tribe they adopted people from other races, outsiders and so on. The Family name and Parma (the magical book) are what glue together people and that doesn’t necessary mean that people are blood related nor the same race. Aïwenor : Aïwenor is the country where the Family come from. It is desert like and bathed by aether that makes the sand flow like sea waves. The sand covers and reveals places as it move, constantly changing the topography. This place would be dangerous to travel without knowing it perfectly, all Family members know how to set their position and to find a direction using the stars and so were mainly nocturnal while they were still living in Aïwenor. To be able to live in such a hostile place, the Family adapted some knowledge they found in their precious relic, Parma (I will explain later what is Parma). With it’s help, they managed to set some domes to protect some places and making the sand unable to cover them. Over time the Family members also adapted. Constantly in the middle of some aetherflow, they learned how to use it and shape it as they pleased and are able to summon familiars that can help them to set protections, cast some spells and so on. They all are naturally gifted with magic abilities and nurture it as it’s a key to survive in Aïwenor. More informations about how is the land can be found on the Chapter 2 of the story I’m writing with Nebbs : http://www.nightmaze.fr/post/2013/12/04/...rs-Entwine Familiar Every members of the Family (except Ilwe) has a familiar. Point is not to make that familiar like a super power, it’s only a creature that sustains the master in aether and helps him to shape Aïwenor in an easier way. In game considers that the Familiar are equal to the minion. Since the Familiar are able to set a protection against the aether storms, help for setting domes and such a thing. Out of Aïwenor and the new hunting ground, they are just like useless pets. Yet the Family members tend to appreciate their presence and like to have them near us most of time. The plague As Aïwenor can be taken as a paradise for who knows how to live there and want to use Aether, this place has also consequences on the body of people that want to live here. There is some kind of sickness that strikes mainly upon the strangers and the weakest members of the Family. This sickness seems to have no cure, yet the Family knows some potions and ointment that can help to prevent it and slower its progression. Two years before the Calamity, a piece of Dalamud fell on the desert, its aether conflicted with the one of the desert. The consequences were that the tempest grew stronger and the plague became as aggressive as unpredictable. On a few weeks, most of Family members perished. At this time, the Family was leaded by Antë, Ilwe’s mother. Before dying herself, she did set on Ilwe the responsibility to lead the Family away from Aïwenor and to find a new place to live. Parma : Parma is the name of the book Canwa gave to Lefha before dying. Parma is a really special book as it keeps within it the memory of the Family. In fact, every member of the Family is bound to the book, in exchange of their memories, their knowledge, the book offers them the possibility to access to the knowledge and memories from the past. It’s a bit complicated to explain how it works, basically, if someone has a question, the book can “show†the answer. Literally. A dark circle appears around the one that ask the question and shows the answer as if the event was taking place in front of the one using the book. This is a part of chapter 3 of the story (not published yet) where Ilwe uses the book to try healing his injuries : “Exhausted, I collapsed on the ground, yet I knew that I should not give up now and I forced myself to sit down and open the book. Despite the past years away from each others, the book seemed to immediately recognize me, letting me access to its knowledge carefully recorded magically over the decades. The pages turned by themselves and stopped on a formula. A large circle formed around me and I saw the translucent and pale image of Aghamyr who was preparing a potion, appointing aloud each of the ingredients. I stood up with difficulty, leaving the book on the spot which continued to project the hologram of Aghamyr. From the distance, I could still hear the voice of Aghamyr repeating over and over again the formula for the potion which could relieve me.†Over centuries, Parma grew and changed. While Nymian were destroying their books at the owner’s death and using the cover to make a new one for a new owner, Parma remained as it was and developed some kind of sentience. Parma can decide who it lets access its pages, even pushing persistent folks away. It now chooses its new owner, judging people knowledge and capacity and so on. While original Nymian book could only be linked to one person, Parma became what bound the Family together, helping them to grow stronger, keeping their arcanist knowledge and so on. Beside that, the owner chosen by Parma can use it as a normal arcanist book and access to some related knowledge. The Family has a really special relation with Parma and as a consequence, the Leader of the Family is most of time Parma’s owner. Nirë : The Family isn’t native from Eorzea and worship their own Goddess which name is Nirë. Nirë is one of the two Goddess of Truth and Observation, she is bound the the existence of Aïwenor. Ilwe has shared her story with Nebbs ICly and I kept the bit I wrote at that time here : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gSFf...DuBY2iAUx4 , this hasn’t been corrected nor put in order since it was what I wrote at that time and I didn’t prepare anything else than the outlines beforehand. The stripe covering the eyes of the Family is linked to Nirë. When the young members reaches adulthood, they participate to a specific ceremony that allow them to meet Nirë/ Using a specific potion that help them to keep their mind clear as they are drifted where Nirë will be, they are aware of what happen and can ask her some questions. The meeting with Nirë is a really personal and important event that mark a change in the life of the one participating on it. Before letting the new adult go back to his senses, Nirë blesses him with her mark that will remind them how important truth and trust is for the rest of their life. The Family in Eorzea Now I’m done with explaining the basic, let’s go back to the “story†so far. Be aware that I’ll talk a lot about Ilwe since he’s my character and the story was set around him. As explained in the chapter 2 of my story, the Family left Aïwenor due to the plague. When Antë’s died, Parma couldn’t be found and Ilwe took the decision to leave without it. After weeks travelling, the Family reached Eorzea. You can imagine there how distraught the members of the Family were : In a short time, they lost most people they liked, left their country and lost the book. Beside that, over decades most of them knew only about Aïwenor and the Tribe and such a change was difficult. During the two years before the Calamity, the Family tried to find a new place to live and to adapt to Eorzea’s life. Since the book was missing, most of the Family members were reaching for Ilwe to follow the path of his mother yet this one wasn’t ready to lead them. When Garlemand attacked Eorzea, a part of the Family decided to fight to not lose again what they finally got back. I don’t need to describe what happened. Again many people died, the ones who survived will have to deal with the consequences of what is a war. Ilwe danced with the Death and lost his right eye, his wife was nowhere to be found, his brother and sister disturbed by what they saw at that time and the Family lost its hunting ground and the place where they were living. As the Family was pushing more and more Ilwe to be their new leader, he decided to listen to his sister, I’silmë, and to go away while she will try to take over the leadership. There begin the 2.0 version of the game. I wrote some other things, as you can imagine that stuff happened since the V 2.0 (in fact, a lot happened), but for now I guess that it's enough and I'll give more informations later for the one that wanna know more . PS : Sorry for the english mistakes you will probably read there, Nebbs didn't correct everything (Thanks again Nebbs for your help everytime ♥ !) Wiki | Tumblr | Commission |
