For me of course its there, and it is used in extreme emergencies, and it has a tendency to cause nausea. Just to limit it for myself, if I teleport ooc I just IC that I am using an airship, it isnt instant.

Meriel uses her mount and airships most of the time. If she does teleport she does so from an aetheryte. So she won't teleport from out in the middle of nowhere. She will travel to the nearest shard. Unless of course she is defeated in which case I have no choice. Meriel does not like or handle teleportation well IC and you will see her stumble sometimes after she has done it.
I used to do this on another game that had teleportation. Would drive players nuts but it helps me with immersion. And the other game didn't have mounts so you know it took me awhile to travel. lol |

As with Freelance, Nako'li just see's it as a spell. Although he has never really gotten the hang of a smooth teleport, so many people feel nauseous after he teleports them, even if they are somewhat used to aether travel.
regarding teleporting people who didn't want to, or stopping someone from doing it, I am actually exploring that with an NPC bad guy that I am doing some bits and pieces with. Essentially he can slap on an aetherial anchor as it where, or simply override someones will when it comes to him moving them. That being said, he can only do it if he can see them. And its nothing that will, through me at least, ever be available to players interacting with the plot. kind of an inate ability of theirs as it were. Aduu Avagnar, The Wanderer: Wiki

Hwab has some superstitions about aetheric teleportation. Namely, he avoids it because he's convinced that there is a remote possibility of "getting lost" during the travel and becoming stuck in an incorporeal state. He'd rather keep his feet planted on firm ground or a deck, whether that be by sea or air!

I'm glad you brought up this topic, ExKage.
As you know from our earlier RP scene, Xydane used an aetheryte shard to teleport in order to evade capture. Twice. As most of you know, I like keeping my posts very simple. It's there in lore and it's possible. In my character's situation for instance, he had planned ahead knowingly that capture is very likely. Characters; however, need to be smart about when they use teleportation during RP. There's a point where characters need to understand that they cannot cross the "line." As Val stated, teleportation takes more than a few seconds and I have given a proper and understandable use of cover while teleporting - smoke bombs for instance. Honestly, just be smart about it, give good reason, know the lore, and don't abuse the system. |

I always try to make it comical when it's used around Val. He doesn't have the aether/ability to really use magic, at least as of yet, and I don't think he could ever really figure out how to actually use an aetheryte. That being said, he can kind of "hitch a ride" with other people when they use it and it often leaves him queasy. The first time, he vomited everywhere.

When I first started out, I tended to avoid RPing teleportation, and instead focused on overland and airship travel. However, as C'kayah became more and more of a smuggler and fixer, his need to travel around meant that I had to adopt IC teleportation simply in order to meet the people he needed to meet, many of whom rely on IC teleportation to get around.
I figure the big aetheryte crystals are thoroughly baked into lore, so there simply isn't any question about those. C'kayah does carry an aetheryte shard, too. I see this as a way to explain adventurer's ability to teleport to an aetheryte from anywhere. At the same time, I completely respect Aya's position, so I view the portable crystals as being expensive - not everyone can afford them, and I imagine they probably wear out over time, too. Requiring a portable crystal to be able to port out of a situation, too, means that it can be taken away, trapping C'kayah. I typically RP teleportation as taking some small-but-not-insignificant amount of time. This means it's not really feasible to teleport out of combat, or any sort of immediate conflict. It otherwise feels just a little too Deus Ex... |

I use the teleports as if the Anima system still exists. 100/100 to start, the further you teleport too, the more it costs, and it replenishes one anima every 4 hours. If my characters anima stores are depleted they walk - though sometimes Armi just likes to walk anyway because she is actually really bad at controlling her Aether (She just can't get the hang of spells at this point) and she's kind of afraid one day she going to accidently teleport inside a wall.
Group teleportation I've seen too, I treat is as it pretty much depletes most of your anima if you attempt to take anyone with you, and should be used sparingly. |

I follow the bit of lore that has already been linked, and all of my characters have some sort of restriction when it comes to teleportation. I also exclusively do it by an aetheryte, paying a tip to some invisible guards. Most of my characters can't do it a lot - My main can do it once a week, where as two of my three alts can't do it at all and the third could do it more frequently but he severely doesn't like it. For the characters that can't do it, I have taken the liberty to allow them to be teleported by someone else (again near an aetheryte) whilst also having them wear an aether-enhancing piece of jewelry.Â
I also don't think anything the character isn't wearing can be teleported - Ie you can't just teleport 1x adventurer complete with chocobo & wagon. I've experienced a few times where someone just teleports away right in front of me, and I honestly can't say I'll ever take that seriously. Even if it was completely lore viable, it strikes me as one of those things that are too OP for an RP'er to be able to do, as they could then basically teleport out of all trouble ever. |

I typically avoid it since it usually just cheapens a situation and can quite easily lead to people missing out on a lot of enjoyable role-play that actually serves to get them out into the wider game world.
For me role-play is as much about the journey as it is the destination. Some of the best role-play I've ever experienced took place during the time it took to physically travel to a distant area instead of simply arriving there instantly. I do think that teleportation has a place as part of a story but I generally prefer to keep it as something very rare and not rely upon it as a crutch or bad habit. |

Kidding. Usually me and my friends just say we have a connecting crystal and roleplay using the aetheryte network like so. We cant use it without one nearby, etc etc. The spastic shark |

I find the whole travel-locked side of RP a pain, so I think rapid transit (eg Teleport or similar) helps with RP flow/opportunity.Â
Clearly the crystals are in the lore and the game, so I also like to accept that as the way to travel. It is better than making up some non-lore way. In game I do RP that I walk to a crystal to be able to teleport. I'm not that keen on the TPing from or to an open space.
