Before she met him, she was a runaway teenager with poor prospects and a shrinking gil purse. He took her in, gave her a place to stay, and along with the other Wizards, trained her in the Disciplines of Magic over the years after the Calamity. If she'd never met him, she'd be dead or worse. It's safe to say some of what drives her is honoring their memory, and the fact that they were killed by Sahagin is why she reserves considerable hatred for the "fishbacks" and looks down upon beastmen in general.
