I'm leaning towards the "pointless fear-mongering" side of things, now. It's a topic that warrants discussion, but... If people are already engaging in this type of behavior (that is, forcing their kinks, unwarranted, into the public domain), Â be honest, do you think they're going to go on this board to see that people had a problem, and then offer to defend themselves or even stop said behavior? My gil is on 'no' to any of those scenarios. Consent has always been the golden rule of RP, and those who are gonna break it are gonna break it. All this topic seems to accomplish, from my perspective, is to guilt those who are engaging privately to feel like they're being publicly shamed, and causing them to (maybe down the road) emotionally lash out.
My character isn't underage, but she is lalafell, and this issue kept being brought up. The lack of distinction in some people's mind between "lalafell" and "child" is not lost on me. There are details within Kino's backstory that, according to multiple people in this thread, would cause them to raise their eyebrows. However, these details are intrinsic to her character, comparable to the details in Momodi's mail-quest. Ick, ew, how could I? I'm not a very public RPer. I mean, I use /say, /em, yada yada but I keep my general story and my characters within a fairly closed circle. As far as I know no one I've ever RP'd with has been made uncomfortable by either her backstory or her partners (while she was actively dating). But even if they were, I'd say "sorry, find another person to RP with, or another world to RP in, because them's the facts." I don't go out of my way to throw myself at people, or act lewd, or anything even close to resembling that. These type of relationships are not unheard of or uncommon within the world. The game itself presents these relationship as not-so-eyebrow-raising. If I were allowed to use XI as evidence, I'd point out the Valentione's day event, which... if I'm remembering correctly, paired up a male hume with a female tarutaru at least once.
Moving onto purely age, IC, there's a soft line that's mostly completely dissolved by age 18. barring that, my personal opinion is that as long as they're close-ish in age and the relationship is believable and not obviously slapped together and duct-taped for fantasy fulfillment. Even then, I won't point them out publicly and say "wow, look at the freaks with their freaky freak fetish." I'll just choose not to RP with them, because, regardless of the relationship, that's just sloppy RP.
Humans (and, I'm going to assume any humanoid fantasy creatures, in this case) are sexual beings before what is considered legal. The legality is determined locally by either common belief or what is determined to be "old enough" to deal with the consequences. In real life, I was (E)RPing at 15 and I'd be the first to assure everyone that it was awkward and hack-neyed as hell. In character, I'm fine with those themes of awkwardness being explored by other people, because it's a genuinely funny (in retrospect) aspect of the human(oid) condition.
tl;dr: Remember, the golden rule of RP is and always will be consent. Those who break it will continue to do so. No need to bring personal kinks into it.
