I find just having an overarching goal helps a lot to direct a character's plot line.
For example, Chachanji wants to become a Paladin to protect and "halp" people. A good number of his RPs revolve around that. It's how he met Warren and Roen and Crofte and many others. And, in doing so, he's gotten embroiled in a lot of other situations as a ancillary or even supporting character.
So, I'll turn the question back onto you. How do you imagine Melody turning out? What would you like her to accomplish?
