I fixed it by moving the page. Normally I catch these pretty quick while I'm doing RC patrol, but sometimes I'm occupied elsewhere. 
What ends up happening is that people will click their username in the upper-right corner of the page and edit their user page, as opposed to searching for their character name in the search box and clicking the redlink for it in the search results. Thankfully, it's an easy fix for anyone who sees it.
