She has tossed aside (at a great risk to herself) her old life because there was a inner struggle with it that has been quietly building over an amount of about ten years. Now that it's gone and she's in her now life, she has a more hopeful view of how things will be for here. She's still having a harder time adjusting than she lets on, but a large scale life change usually has it's bumps along the way.
