Communication and talking things out I feel is always 120% effective at keeping the boundary and not making things uncomfortable. Being frank and honest helps, even if it isnt always what someone wants to hear.
Another which I feel is one far too many people forget is: there is a person behind the screen and RP. If you wouldn't ignore/avoid/smash talk/bastardize/etc. This person if you knew them irl, dont do it simply because a screen is protecting you. They are real and have lives too
