I think both of your options described above align well with the lore and have interesting dramatic hooks. The second one, in particular, is a really nice spin on how to do tribal RP. The first option would probably give you two a lot more flexibility in how you play and RP with others, however. If you two do end up going with the second option, I can see that being a great starting point for RPing with others--personally, I think that would be a wonderful basis for an FC or I guess just a regular RPing group. Nice work! :D
