If V'lanya had never got exiled from her tribe, she'd have likely been sent to the Thaumaturge's Guild in Ul'dah to harness her aether. Either that, or she'd have been taught by an elder in the tribe. Even then, if she wasn't taught correct aether manipulation, she'd have likely been killed.
Fast-forwarding a few moons, if she -did- still get exiled, and failed in summoning her voidsent companion, she'd be killed - again. I'd actually love to write that into a small story, but alas, it involves characters that are not my own, and I don't feel comfortable writing for them.
Most of her story is just her escaping death after death. I put her into too many situations that are just sadistic on my part.
