There are a number of different metrics that can be used to give kind of a birds-eye-view of what any given RP linkshell is all about.
I wrote a post about this a couple months back HERE (2nd post on this page).
IC vs. OOC (maybe stated as a rough percentage and with some indication if the LS has its own OOC pearl)
Adherence to game's lore (often difficult to measure without specific examples being given though)
Style/Purpose/Story - (mercenary company, crafting group, military group, circle of friends, labor union, yadda yadda)
Event Types - (casual vs. monumental - does your LS sit around drinking tea and gabbing a lot, or does it spend an abundance of time out dealing with war/death/etc. - I've jibingly called this the "boredom versus PTSD" meter - please take that with the humor which is intended)
Another spectrum to go by may be endgame competency. Are you looking for a group that you can join in on Ifrit/Moogle/Garuda/DH/AV/CC/etc. runs? Some do. Others get that fix from a separate OOC linkshell. Also if endgame is on the agenda, are such events handled IC, OOC, or a mix?
As stated earlier, another important factor may be a linkshell's views/tolerance towards participation in other linkshells.
I think the timezone (or prime playtime) may be worthwhile to post as well.
I'm sure there's some other baselines that can be used to help measure a linkshell's various dimensions. This is all I can think of for the moment though. Hope it helps.
