Yeah the King of Ala Mhigo, Theoderic, was no bueno.
1552 --- Theoderic, the King of Ruin, fought to wipe out the Fist of Rhalgr, the Monks, of Ala Mhigo. Nearly all the Monks were wiped out.
1557 ---
After inciting unrest within the masses of Ala Mhigo, the Garleans are able to capture the city with little bloodshed and proceed to occupy the great city of the Highlanders The Monk-less Ala Mhigans were no match for the mighty power of the Garlean Magitek and Machina.
But the main reasons were the from the state that Ala Mhigo was in. The actions of Theoderic and the help of the Garleans to help incite the anger of the people.
I don't think the masses (even with the flyer propaganda) want to be ruled by Garlemald, and Lolorito siding with them, even for business, wouldn't work favorably for him. For Garlemald, oh hells yes they sorta win either way, but Lolorito wouldn't do well if that were to happen.
