I've personally found that being able to establish some sort of rapport IC makes it easier to talk about things on an OOC level. I would wonder if your character would be at all curious why there's some lady going on about some weird religion. Too much time with the beastmen? Maybe something one of those weird Domans brought across the sea? Maybe she's been exposed to some bad somnus or something? There's bound to be a story in there. Maybe they don't actually care at all, which is fine.
I suppose I wonder if an OOC dismissal of the concept/player should be the same as an IC dismissal of the character?
Granted there are those who react very badly to any sort of critique even from someone that's had some exposure to their character, but hey, least someone tried, y'know?
