Chocobo Chowdown Challenge Explained:
THE CHOCOBO CHOWDOWN CHALLENGE
You, yes you! You've done it all before, right? You've fought in the grindstone, drank 'til you passed out at the monthly drinking contest, rolled dice and played cards until you won jackpots or lost shirts. Luck, skill and iron control of your body are what you're all about, right, adventurer?
You say you've just about run out of challenges. We say, hold on there. Your own feathered companion has a challenge for you that we aren't quite sure if you can handle. You can drink like a fish, but can you eat like a Chocobo?
Everyone knows that our birds go crazy over foods that are too bitter and strong for any other species to enjoy, but aren't you your bird's master? Aren't you the potent, iron-bellied adventurer that laughs at the strongest boozes and toughest challenges?
Can you stomach the foods that your own steed craves?
We challenge you to eat what your bird eats easily... but that we bet will send your tummy whirling, adventurer!
YOUR MENU
Get ready! Before you, you will find a plate containing a healthy bite of each one of the following, wrapped in a Gysahl Green leaf:
1) Xelphatol Apple
2) Doman Plum
3) Mamook Pear
4) Valfruit
5) O'Ghomoro Berry
6) Cieldalaes Pineapple
7) Han Lemon
You must eat each one, wrapped in its leaf, chewing each piece at least 5 times, to win the challenge.
Brave adventurers of iron tongues and hardy guts may challenge themselves to eat like a bird either in a contest of personal gustatory endurance, or as a group challenge!
CHOCOBO CHOWDOWN FOR ONE
The rules for simulating the Chowdown for a single challenger are as follows:
For each fruit, 1-7 above, you must perform a /random roll. A result of 500 or higher on the roll means that your character was able to chew and swallow the horribly bitter bite. A roll of less than 500 on any roll means that you've lost the challenge!
Take a drink - challengers are allowed to take a couple of stiff drink to cleanse their palates. Up to TWO separate times during the challenge, you may reroll your /random to try to get 500 or higher. You may not take both drinks in a row: if you use one of your rerolls, you MUST accept the reroll's result; if a reroll is below 500, the challenge is lost!
For example, a winning challenge's rolls might look like this:
1) 525
2) 771
3) 222
DRINK! Reroll is 889 (note that if this reroll was less than 500, the challenge is lost!)
4) 868
5) 569
6) 912
7) 123
DRINK! Reroll is 764, and victory.
Please note that this challenge will not be won easily or often, nor is it designed to be. Flip a coin seven times and try to get all heads, to get a sense of it.
CHOCOBO CHOWDOWN FOR GROUPS
The rules are much simpler for groups, and are designed so that there will usually be a winner.
For each fruit, 1-7 above, each participant performs a /random roll. A result of 500 or higher means the player moves to the next round; a result lower than 500 means that the player was unable to finish the terribly bitter bite and is out of the competition.
Rerolls are not allowed in the group challenge - the idea is to eliminate players.
The winner is the last player who has not been eliminated; it is not necessary to eat all seven bites to win the group challenge, only to survive longer than the others.
If all remaining players are eliminated at the same time, no one wins!
In the unlikely event that more than one player succeeds in all seven rounds, all players to do so are considered winners.
OPTIONAL SUDDEN DEATH RULE:Â Ties may be resolved by eating a spare Gyshal Green leaf and doing one more /random roll. Anyone who passes the roll is considered a winner, even if multiple people do so. If all fail, then all have indeed failed! Consider that stipulation carefully before invoking the Sudden Death rule.
