The one Gun blade I have seen work is in XIII seeing as Lightnings weapon would fold into a gun and then turn into a blade when needed. As for XIV the Garleans I think uses a version that brings aether into the barrel and shoots out something like to a exploding fireball. We see the impacts in some of the CGI movies but there is not small bullet whole its a ball of energy as well in game it would be very situational it would be something to a mix of PLD's melee combat and BRD's skill set.
I don't see us using the Gun blade at any point in time until maybe LONG time the line and even then the skills used in it would be somewhat odd.
