That's the point. Your character may not care about the things involved or the powers that be, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the world throws their hands up and says, "Hallelujah! She's repented!" We honestly don't have much, if anything, to go off of when it comes to heretics repenting. Once you're branded a heretic, it isn't something that you can just so easily wash off your hands by bending over for some other noble.
