As we kicked off our next company plotline last week, it was time again for me to write a summary. Enjoy!

Act 3: The Silk Road
Chapter 1
It was meant to be an easy job. Escort the silks and other Ishgardian fineries from Camp Dragonhead to Limsa Lominsa. The Jackals would take the long road, through the Shroud to Thanalan, and use the caravan as a cover for the real work. Their sights were set on a small Garlean convoy; magitek parts and other riches awaited them. The true nature of the mission was kept a secret, even to the pack, for the time being due to the risk involved should they be found out prior to making the hit. Yet all their safety measures and careful planning fell spectacularly apart as they ventured through the icy landscape of Coerthas.
The ambush was swift and brutal. Men armed to the teeth assaulted those guarding the caravan itself, whilst the scouting group further ahead were met by a magitek colossus. Almost all of the Jackals suffered terrible injuries and, in some cases, would not have lived to tell the tale had it not been for the Au Ra chirurgeon passing by at the time. Their foes eventually perished or fled but the price paid for their success was heavy indeed.
The pack gathered up the wounded and spent the next day recovering in Fallgourd Float. The question on everyone's minds was the same: how did this happen? Some began blaming each other whilst others blamed themselves. Theories and suspicions were raised but no answer could be found at the time.
Moving on to Gridania and taking airship flight to Limsa the following day, the Jackals arrived home safely and the arguments began in earnest. Inarah finally explained that the job was a cover, and perhaps their plan had, after all, been discovered by their prey. The fact she kept this secret enraged some of the pack and the threads tying them all together began to fray.
Requiring answers of her own, Inarah took Aeron with her to search for answers in Limsa's underbelly whilst Kilid headed north to Coerthas. Although Kilid's efforts were futile, Inarah's bore fruit; an enigmatic woman known only as The Ruby promised to give her the information she desired, but only if the Jackals succeeded in their planned attack on the Garlean convoy. With little else to go on, and a promise of appraisers and buyers for the goods they would recover, it seemed an offer she could scarcely refuse.
Was this too convenient, too good to be true? Were the Jackals in over their heads? Only time, and the outcome of the next job, would tell.
