I know this isn't as fun of a suggestion, but no one mentioned it. Â If you want the character to have longer hair, but find that it is obviously sacrificed by the game's available hairstyles, I would maybe choose a braided style? Â That way, maybe in posted RP, or in private context, one could still RP that a character has long hair, but in game, it is explained as to why that isn't apparent by your everyday appearance. Â Just a little suggestion, hope it helps again!
