I'm likely mistaken, but I'll see if I can dig up on whether or not it was said that some actually fled the city and made their way elsewhere - I thought that was said, but I want to make sure I'm not remembering info incorrectly. :/a Well, it was war...and it was a bloody, brutal war.  It stands to reason that even outlying areas would have been affected.  We don't know how many the war killed/maimed/etc, either.
