But more seriously, maybe the problem is you do not have a narrative theme you're trying to approach?
I know a lot of people tend to take a more reflexive view of rp. They see it as acting whereas I see it as writing. Generally, if I don't have a basic framework in place as to what kind of story I want my character to tell or help tell, I cannot get interested in playing them. Perhaps if you thought carefully about the narrative concepts your favorite characters explored, and think about what you wish you could have done with them, you'll get a renewed concept of where you wish for your Au ra character to go. Do you want her to have a specific challenge she's working to overcome? Or maybe you want to explore the culture shock angle, or challenging her belief system? My character is pretty violent, so I felt that doing these things would help fuel the character concept; I don't know if it would work for yours, but it's worth a shot.
