Putting that aside...nobody can force you to do anything. Though if you're going to do something unusual or take liberties with your character then you need to make an effort to do so in a plausible manner. Even then...you'll have to accept that a lot of role-players will simply raise an eyebrow or avoid your character altogether if it feels too jarring to interact with.
