Seconding Inarah here, using a name in an emote definitely is one that I tend to do myself when it comes to events. If they don't respond, I usually send a short tell to ask if they saw it and more often than not it's "oh no, I missed it in the chatscroll", pretty much like everyone's noted.
Then the RP goes from there.
