So, I was thinkin'...
All the Tumblrs linked here have the same, or similar navigation buttons. Can those be customized?
I guess what I'm looking for is probably...ideally the main site with character journal entries, then a few things on the side, such as Side Quests, Art, Achievements and a few other things that probably need their own customization as well.
The Side Quest section will be a list of 'quests' Molt is on. They range from small things that he's currently striving for, to larger things involved with other people, to an even larger main plot for his own story line. Then, I'd like to have a way of showing or listing quests that other RPers can either help him with or take on a quest of his own. It wouldn't be far from the in-game quest journal in theory. There's a lot of creativity behind it and especially for those interested in taking on his own created side quests (Which could be striking a deal with him, making him armor/weapon, adventuring with him randomly--ANYTHING) and it would provide a hint on how to more or less get your character at the right place and the right time to initiate it.
Each 'journal entry' would have to be it's own post, but the problem I could see with Tumblr is that it seems a little...'fixed', if that makes sense. I wouldn't be able to move around the entries (as it would be one after another, straight down).
Then there's Art, which would be straightforward-- screenshots and drawn arts of Molt and stuff. The layout doesn't need to be as picky, but a gallery rather than posts straight down would be nice.
Achievements was an idea I got to just put up unique things Molt has done in his RP or in his history. It would be modled after Xbox achievements, with a mostly witty title and the actual description underneath. Things like, "Just One Drink Can't Hurt-- Sit down at a RP Tavern for the first time in your FFXIV RP career", or "Stick 'Em with the Pointy End-- Become proficient with the one-handed sword". It would actually be pretty cool to come up with a bunch of these and have a main site that players can have a database of their achievements...if that makes sense.
I just thought about all this upon reflection of not wanting to bloat my wiki. No one wants to read one looooooooooooooooooooooooong (see, you skipped all those o's and went right here!) wiki page, but people seem content on traversing multiple sites if it's unique and intuitive enough. I mean, the Tumblrs themselves are a great example. Except I'm not quite sure I could get a Tumblr to work with me quite the way I'd want it. I'll have to test it out.
Heck, if there was just a website dedicated to this all this, or if I was good with any code, that would be awesome. Every user site would have personal entries for themselves (for their character to do mostly if not all on their own), and a list of entries for public-assisted quests along with a clue on how to get your character involved by 'accident'. It's not organized by date or order of entry posted, but can be sorted by Main, Side, and Public. When RP is made in game, at the end of the night or the next day, the user would update any quests, and other users involved in the RP (if it was an event or part of a story arc) could add themselves to the entry, and they would get updates on it. You can see who's involved in the story, see the actual written updates you've been posting on that particular story involving your character and reflect on the path that task, or quest, has gone.
Holy crap I need to patent this and find a web designer STAT!
