I am in the UK and have been on Balmung since beta and also played other games in EU and NA. This is what I have found.
Latency/Connection for normal play it is fine, especially since they fixed some of the encounters that really punished you for high latency. For raid stuff then use something like WTFast which worked for me and I end game raided through Coil. (you can now run keep running this for free as I understand).
Role Play Community. Over time numbers fall and the EU side becomes very thin. However, if you can still transfer back then this should not be an issue in the long term. (I know in SWTOR this was/is an issue as it does not support server transfers from EU and NA). Â You may also suffer from a low population server, in terms of the market board for example.
edit - I can also see Balmung loosing more players from the EU timeslot, which means that for EU players it becomes a very empty place indeed.
