Having not played them I wasn't aware. I was told they reused a lot of assets between two games and the gimmicks themselves didn't change much.
Ah, got me there technically. They did come out together, but they were self-contained games with link capability. They reused some generic assets that were in Link's Awakening but for the most part they had little in common. Not even recycled bosses or dungeons if I remember correctly, since the treasures between games also varied.
