I'm thinking about having him just decide to leave for general distrust of the tribe towards him. Not outright hostility, but varied discrimination. Perhaps when something went wrong, eyes were turned to him/he had to make it right, which he got tired of. Sometimes got in fights with others (I think he's sort of like a brawler class-wise).
I'm still thinking about how I'd like to handle his name, but everything you guys have said so far are very helpful!
