Ruran was once a 'white knight' type...until life punched him in the face one too many times. He still holds all of the virtues you listed, but with a much more somber undertone. Meeting Haecid could do him some good, maybe bring some optimism and idealism back. Or maybe Ruran could show Haecid that it's not all as great as it's set to be. Development, either way!
