There's quite a bit of RP happening all about. Reading the lore is definitely a helpful first step! The Quicksand in Ul'dah is a good place to get your feet wet and an array of casual and more serious RPers drift through there pretty often.  My suggestion is to figure out a race for your main character and then dive into as much lore as you possibly can!
