My character has had the Echo to protect her from tempering. Most everything I could say has already been touched on by the other people who responded, but I'll add that it's OK if you want to give your character the Echo too. While it's a rare skill compared to the general population, it's not so rare that only the WoL and his 7 best friends can have it. (I'm at work and can't link specific resources though.)
