But either way, I always pick a MBTI type for my characters when I first create them, before I start RPing them, because it helps me keep their characterization consistent. If you're going into the MBTI (not 16personalities, but the actual MBTI) the real meat of it is the cognitive functions, of which each type has a distinct combination of four. Any generic description of the types is just a stereotypical description of how these four functions tend to manifest, but the cognitive functions are what really help you figure out what motivates a character and drives their actions. It's a little window into their actual thought process.
I do this too, which is why I was so adamant that ISTJ is the wrong personality type for Aghurlal (with the correct one being INTJ). If it wasn't, I sincerely doubt he'd be in the profession he is (Rogues' Guild agent); I feel an ISTJ Aghurlal would've picked something more grounded and focussed on concrete goals, and less in achieving nebulous stuff like "justice".
...I also think he'd be less paranoid, and a lot calmer. xD His intuition is currently a source of, among other things, most of his anxiety. If he didn't have that tendency to extrapolate based on patterns and ideas, then his anxiety wouldn't manifest in the same way.
ANYWAY since I'm here again I'll take the test for some of my other characters and then disregard the results except the A/T distinction:
Telluric Medic
INTJ-A "THE LOGICIAN" (INTP-A)
Logicians pride themselves on their inventiveness and creativity, their unique perspective and vigorous intellect. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor, Logicians have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history.
In total fairness to both myself and the quiz, the J/P proportions it gave her were 54 to 46.
Caidenden Caiden
"THE LOGISTICIAN" (ISTJ-A)
Their defining characteristics of integrity, practical logic and tireless dedication to duty make Logisticians a vital core to many families, as well as organizations that uphold traditions, rules and standards, such as law offices, regulatory bodies and military. People with the Logistician personality type enjoy taking responsibility for their actions, and take pride in the work they do – when working towards a goal, Logisticians hold back none of their time and energy completing each relevant task with accuracy and patience.
We agreed for once!
Liuthas Corwell
"THE ADVOCATE" (INFJ-T)
As members of the Diplomat Role group, Advocates have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is that they are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact.
Eyyy two in a row.
Remaining 4 to follow... maybe... at some point... in a future post.
