Chachan is a Doman smith if you want to pursue that angle a little bit - he focuses primarily on armor due to his nature, but he is skilled at weaponcraft and repair as well. Not to mention he's a soft-heart if you feel Mide could use someone like that around.
... He's interacted with quite a few Xaela as well. Including the Dotharl, and actually somehow managed to get one to question their own views on combat despite being not all that bright. It was fun.
