Well here we go:
Using FFXIV's current mechanics, I would split my stats between VIT/DEX/MND. Since there were only 30 points available in the beta, I would go 15/10/5. This gives me a decent HP pool as a Glad/PLD (4k) with improved chance to block/parry and also increases my healing potency a bit (depending on tests, if 5 MND isn't that influential, I would pour it into DEX instead for 15/15).
For materia I would slot VIT/STR/DEX/MND. Preferably I would cap out VIT for the max amount of HP available to my class/job and allocate the rest to STR and DEX. If I had any extra space left, I would go for a bit of MND.
For subskills, I would focus on leveling Conj/MRD.
For a craft, I would level Alchemy for the wide variety of potions! Alchemy is also a good foundation craft because it creates parts necessary for all the other crafts!
You can tell that my build focuses more on survivability than DPS.
EDIT: If the game became "real" then I would not bother RPing. I'd be focused on surviving.
If a mans victory's and riches are measured by the people they step on, then my Victory's are measured by the hands that boosted me over the walls that blocked my path. My riches come from my Knights and my friends no amount of gil can replace them. For this I WILL GROW TO BE THE BEST!
