"Blank" Soul/Job stones?

Maybe it whittles down over time like others or they're just very randomly shaped from wherever they come from? Also, in most cases it seems like souls tones are just to give you the strength or knowledge to perform abilities. In MCH's case I guess they give it to you to pave the way for the future.
