Would you guys suggest just joining an FC/Guild/LS/group of RPers just to dive right in? It probably is a tad silly to ask but...how mandatory is Discord? I have one I made for Mathilda, but If I'm nervous as hell to just TYPE at someone, I imagine I'd have a mini heart attack if someone wanted to voice-chat RP!! (or is discord RP just mostly still typing?)
Thank you guys so much for replying and reading all of my text. I just don't want to make a fool of myself or waste other peoples time...I think.
Linkshells/groups/discords, yes. I think I run the only group that refers to itself as a guild, so I'd also say yes there (but of course I would, lol!). I wouldn't recommend joining an FC right away, though. There's so many public events and friendly faces on Balmung that you really needn't even be in an FC at all if you don't want to be, and you'd still have loads of RP opportunities, so if it were me, I'd take my time on that.
Nearly everyone seems to use Discord, but, most do not use it for voice chat (some do when doing like... raiding, and things like that, but that's kinda it usually). It's almost 100% for text chat. Very useful for keeping in touch outside the game, to coordinate availability for RP, notify each other of upcoming activities and events, and to just generally chat about characters and story ideas and things like that.
