I'm a stickler for following naming conventions. I place so much time and effort into naming my characters that I become lost if I don't have at least a rough set of guidelines. Following known naming conventions adds to immersion for me. There are always exceptions to the rule, of course. I just prefer for the exception to remain the exception rather than to become the rule.
