Well technically you can do anything you'd like.
But well, crossing the beams on other types of lore can pose a problem. A lot of people will view you as someone just creating a "special snowflake" character that you want to stand out just for the sake of being unique.
Most easy-going people won't pay mind to it, but you WILL encounter players who simply refuse to even interact with you for technically "breaking" lore.
EDIT: That said, taking lore with a grain of salt is fine, just be sure to not go TOO out there to avoid anything crazy. Your best bet is to post your story here on the forums actually. Tons of people will be more than helpful with constructive feedback. Good luck!
