F2P has become the model for a lot of games these days. It makes the game, technically, more money than a sub-based game. Further, there are a number of really good F2P models out there, Rift has a very good one and it has considerably helped the game. SWTOR, while the model sucks- has helped the game as well. I have heard LOTRO has a good F2P as well which again has helped the game. So in the end we'll see.Â
So as long as it does not become P2W I'd be fine with it. Either way I am excited for the game whether it stays subbed or does have a F2P model. It isn't a matter of a game doing well or not, it is rather more of what will make the company the most money. Great games that are doing well sub-based could technically do even better as a F2P model. It just is how the industry is shifting these days.
Also free trials are good for games as well, gets a player hooked.
