
There's actually a couple of different "soulbound" concepts in XIV. At the most basic level, once you get even a single point of spiritbond for a piece of equipment (i.e., the first time you do anything game mechanics-related in it), it becomes untradeable and is in the "Binding" status. Second, many items -- especially fancy dungeon drops, like the Aetherial items -- are flagged "Untradeable". "Binding" is sort of like bind on equip, whereas "Untradeable" is the equivalent of bind on pickup.
I haven't been in game to look at these items since the event went live, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were Untradeable. Certainly, after you wear them into combat (or gathering, or crafting), they become untradeable due to spiritbond.
